depends on the ground conditions and how much you've had to excavate out, ask your tarmac supplier, theyll want to see that you have the best base possible so that their tarmac lays correctly.

With all due respect it sounds like you may not be in the USA?

Certainly formulas will vary, depending on how deep you want the HARD PACK to be, and the length and width you intend to fill; the soil content in a general sense. Obviously answer two offers a valid suggestion in part, but without knowing at all the depth/ length/ width factors, it's difficult to say here. I desperately want to assume since you state ORDERING, that the company/contractor you engage will have YOUR measurements; OR will have taken them.

Asphalt might only be laid at 2 inches thick? Depending on the contractor.

1 ton for every 4 square metres(if you want a good job)
Recycled Tarmac is the best to use

aslong as it aint sticking out over the top your ok.eg.say ive got 10 inches below the ground aslong as im below the 10 inches im ok personley i would give myself a couple inches for the tarmac.hope it helped good luck
