We have a 'Do not call' list in the UK too.
Its called The Telephone Preference Service
Call 0845 07 007 07. UK only.
Its an automated system.
I registered months ago , nobody has bothered me since.

It is cheeky but what i do is as soon as i know its one of them i take in the biggest breath i can and then scream down the phone. It must really hurt their ears and make them jump. I know they will think im crazy but who cares its not face to face and they dont ring back again. I cant stop laughing afterwards thinking about how they would have reacted.

Don't you just hate them???
When it happens again put the phone straight down or say you rent the house and don't call again.
I once had a company phone me 5 times in one evening and in the end i threatened them with a call to the police regarding harassment....glad to say they got the message.

Straight off ask them how they got your number and what company they represent . . . then say that you are an ex-directory number and that if you receive any more calls from them, that you will charge them with harassment under the Harassment Act. They soon apologise and never call again.

Hi hun
Firstly register as exdirectory with BT.
Also telemarketers who want you to call back are usually scams. They will try to sell you something they dont have, but keep you on line as long as poss. Thats how they make their money, from ur call. Just report it to BT as an abusive call.

Usually telemarketers don't ask for a return call because they know very well no one is ever going to call them.
If you live in the US, and don't want to get those types of calls, you should register on the "do not call" list.
http://www.ftc.gov/donotcall
It works pretty well.
Good luck.

Ring them back and ask for their home phone number so you can call them and discuss when they are having their evening meal!
