It is frowned upon in all of society I'm afraid. the only people that seem to find it funny is us men!
you definitely do not fart in the company of a member of the female sex.
i use the bathroom if i want to fart unless it creeps up on me and explodes out. that can be very dangerous to us male species though, especially if your missus has a frying pan in her hand!
so the general rule is no farting in the house or anywhere other that the bathroom I'm afraid.

But, seriously ... Basic rule is that you can do it wherever you please ~ just not at the dining table. If there are guests in the house that are not family members, it is considered the polite thing to excuse yourself to another room or outside (if there is a plausible reason).

We just let rip then laugh, farts are always funny in our house but if they are particularly ripe you have to go in the garden, lol.

My previous boyf used to fart all the time.. infact we use to giggle all the time and shout 'light a candle' mind you, as I was brought up not to, he only ever heard me fart twice... in fact he actually commented on it the second time he heard me.
My husband on the other hand is a real prude, i have never heard him fart and he hasnt me. he thinks burping is rude. Imagine how he feels tho, apparently I fart in my sleep!!! haha

Since I have three males and a dog, it's like the campfire scene from "Blazing Saddles" in my house. If you need to fart, just do it!
