I am 6months pregnant with our first baby, and my husband and I have both decided before falling pregnant we only want one child. I am 28 and he is 32. I am wanting to go for the whole deal of a hysterectomy, but my husband is worried and says we should rather opt for sterilization. What are the pro's and con's to either way? We will be doing one or the other, we just not sure which one. If we go for sterilization, we will do it straight after the birth, if the hysterectomy, then about 3months after the birth.

Hysterectomy is a very extreme solution and totally unnecessary. I'd be very surprised if you could find a doctor willing to give a healthy 28 year old a hysterectomy. Why not just get your husband to have a vasectomy. Should you or he ever change his mind it can be reversed (under certain circumstances). You may also like to look at long-term contraception solutions (eg. I know there is a uterine impant available which lasts for five years and has the same effectiveness as sterility).
Seriously - you don't need a hysterectomy!

Quite a few women I know have had a hysterectomy and it has some nasty side effects that you should look into before you decide. It can reduce or eliminate sex drive and reduce self-lubrication, bring on an early and unnatural menopause which is apparently harsher than a natural menopause. There is a much increased risk of cardiovascular disease, problems with bladder function, decrease in bone density, and have an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy if the fallopian tubes are not removed at the smae time(removing them is not part of a hysterectomy). You are far too young to be having to deal with all those things, especially with a new baby to take care of.
Hope I helped a little, congratulations on your baby :)

OMG!! You should not have a hysterectomy as a means of preventing pregnancy!! You will age quicker (especially your skin) and go into menapause!! You are only 28!!

Honestly I don't think you'd even find a doctor to give you a hysterectomy for birth control purposes!

Tubal ligation is also an invasive procedure for a woman. General anestesia! SURGERY!

They now have something for a woman called ensure. They sterlize the woman by going up trhough the vagina. It's outpatient and fairly simple.

Also, there's the ole "snip snip" for the man. Pretty easy and fast. Not a major deal and not alot of money.

These are NON-REVERSABLE! To reverse a vacestomy is VERY costly and not always succesful. The surgery is more of an ordeal too.

You are both SO YOUNG to have these procedures. Really, I'm pretty sure any doctor will tell you that you are too young for this.

And things change! You may want another baby. Don't make a rash decision!

You actually have 3 choices.
He can get a vasectomy
You can have your tubes tied
You can have a hysterectomy.
These are in order of seriousness of the operation, hysterectomy being pretty serious.
If you have hysterectomy, you will dump the cost of birth control pills, plus the cost of sanitary napkins, etc., along with the monthly pains of your period. You will gain the thrill of menopause at the age of 29 or so and may want to take some kind of hormone therapy.
Vasectomy is usually reversable with more serious surgery.
Tube tied is reversable with varying success.
Hysterectomy is not reversable in any way.

An endometrial ablation is not a style of delivery manipulate, it is a approach intended to slash a girl's heavy/complex intervals. If you may have an ablation performed, although, you do have got to put into effect a everlasting style of delivery manipulate... I had an ablation performed again in 12/04, and had the Essure approach even as. It is much less invasive than a tubal ligation, there is not any reducing or burning performed. It's all performed by way of hysteroscopy, lessening the dangers. With Essure, small springs are located into the fallopian tubes, inflicting scar tissue to construct, blockading the tubes, stopping %. The first 3 months you have got to use a again up style of bc till you may have an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) performed to make certain that your tubes are certainly blocked. Normally gyns do not love to sterilize younger females b/c of the truth that they would difference their minds. But at age 23 I could feel that a gyn could comply with do some thing for you. Go forward and ask approximately Essure, as I stated, it is much less invasive than a tubal ligation. Insurance does quilt it... a minimum of, ours did. Good success to you.

At 20 some odd years I wanted a hysterectomy because of bad menstrual cramps no children and at that time I really didn't care for any, now I would do almost any-thing for a child at the age of 32 still child-less. Always think 10 years later and not now, if you guys are financially, mentally and physically secure forget any of the procedures you are considering and let nature and GOD take their course. More to beside their is no DOCTOR WILL GIVE YOU ONE AT YOUR AGE I KNOW FIRST HAND.

If your husband gets sterilized, this is the easier way.
first of all, the surgery is not very complicated, and it can be undone, if you should decide to go for another child.

the second is, hystererectomy for a woman makes it impossible to ever get a child again. the operation is more dangerous, and it is possible that while extracting the ovaries, some other organ (your stomach, for example) gets perforated - the sepsis could kill you.
it's not that I want to scare you, only that happened to my Mom.

and after the hysterectomy, you'll need far more time to recover than your husband will need after a sterilization.

Why don't you get him a vasectomy? Your body is already going through a lot as it change wise, and added surgical cases can make it difficult for recovery. Especially while you have a baby to watch. A vasectomy is a quick procedure that he will be able to return to work from in three days, and is reversable should you decide in the future that you want to have more children. Nothing changes sex wise from a vasectomy either.

if you get a hysterectomy you will go into early menopause and believe me you don't want that, i was put in early menopause for a medical condition through medication and it can cause your hair to fall out, nails to become brittle and break, lots of weight gain, not to mention that hot flashes are absolutely horribly gross... sterilization is a way better option

Hysterectomies are listed as one of worst surgeries you can get. They are very hard to recover from. But what is worse is you would be removing a primary source of estrogen. A lack of estrogen in you body can create a number of health and sexual problems.
