It is ok for some women to skip periods if they have certain medical problems such as due to endometriosis or something called menstrual migraines. Any woman who is considering this needs to discuss it at length with her doctor because skipping periods is not a good choice for everyone especially with certain types of medical histories.

I haven't had a period for 10 years and I am on the Depo Provera injection every 10-12 weeks. because my periods were so heavy. My daughter has just started it because she has endometrosis an PCOS. she can't have children she doesn't want children but doesn't want the pain with the endo and the 6month long periods she already has. it won't do her any harm not to have periods or has it done me any harm. but I still have the moods and bloating but apart from that I am fine.
I don't think you know about the menstrual cycle either. you have a period to get rid of unused womb lining. the pill and other hormonal medications stop the womb lining thickening for the arrival of a fertilized egg. No unused womb lining no need for a period like an artificial menopause if you will.
I used to be a nurse and my daughter has had so many tests and procedures you get to know these things more than I would like to.
