Lightly mop over with a damp not wet mop. You could also do this with a damp cloth attached to a sweeping brush.

I have a Siberian Husky and I quickly found that tape took a lot of effort and time, and was not very effective. Maybe this method will work on your cat?? Go to Pet-co and get a large dog brush, the kind with the small metal needles without the plastic caps on them. Vacuum your carpet like normal. This probably creates a "track" of fur in your carpet. When you are able to see the hair, simply take the brush and brush it out. It picks up most if not all of the hair. If you must, vacuum again. It does take a little time, but you will save your money from spending it on tape and cleaners that fall short. Plus, grooming your cat often cuts down on the shedding. (when you brush your cat, try to brush against the growth direction of the fur. This gets A LOT of under-coat hairs about ready to shed. Then brush as normal.)

Put a pair of rubber gloves on, and scrape them across the carpet in one direction. This will gather the hair.
Alternatively, if the hairs are dirty, get a bucket of water and detergent and a cloth (a proper one, not a j cloth). Wet the cloth, wring it out so there are no drips, then brush it across the carpet in one direction to pull the cat hairs into a heap you can pick up and discard.

Use a hacksaw blade, removed from the handle of course. Drag it over the carpet, and it drags the hairs with it.

VARYMARK has a good product,
you roll it like a paint brush and all the hair clings to it.
Can be used on clothes, carpets, seats etc.

Give the cat the hoover and tell him/her to do it themselves! Eventually they will get fed up of it and stay out of the room alltogether. They would rather lounge around all day than do any housework!
