Define Cool. America is huge, and a lot of people live there. I doubt that you would find some parts of the Bible belt cool.

I like it. The theory of the government is good, even if the practice is spoiled by greed and corruption, but that is universal.

We're in a national crisis over Political Correctness, I think, so much so that many civil liberties are being sacrificed in order to cater to splinter groups.

I think it sad that the ideal of personal responsibility is decaying. Frankly, I think its okay to let some people kill themselves with drugs or whatever, and that we spend way too many resources on fringe groups. But I'm an asshole, and know it.

but. or And.

The country is huge, and the geographic diversity is rich. The land in most places is beautiful.

I don't much care for cities anywhere, but NYC is worth a visit, as is DC. The museums in both towns can occupy you for months, and are a great deal.

The devastation of New Orleans is a tragedy. It was an interesting city with a great blend of cultures.

Austin Tx, is probably the most fun city in the country. Texas is a pretty place, too.

I've lived in the US for 50+ years, and my business took me to all the states and many other countries. They are all different once you get outside the major towns.

I think one of the saddest things is the homogenization of the towns... the super-chains of fast food are the same everywhere, and many cities are losing their architectural distinction.

My experience in most countries has been similar, though. I thought the people in Paris sucked, but the food and sites were amazing. Once I got out into the country, the people were much more friendly. I've felt the same in England, Italy, Spain, Germany, Mexico; heck, everywhere. And here in the US. I hate the cities, but love the country.

But I really think that getting out into the country is your best bet. No language problems for you, and the people and landscape are decidedly different from region to region. You can better count on being safe outside of the cities, too. You'll find that the people will be fascinated to hear about your home as well. In general, the US is a caring place.

Did I mention it is big? There is an awful lot to see and do.

Amtrak has a special rate for folks from outside the US. We can get a 30 day pass for around 900.00, I think it is 700.00 for visitors. One of the great things about rail travel is that you'll see a lot of wilderness. Many of the trains are special routes into the National Parks, which are just awesome..... check out Amtrak if you'll be here a while.

The US is the best country in the world. It's pretty cool... ha. Depending on where you are, you may not be thinking it's cool at the time, but there are violent slums and ghettos in every country. I have heard some pretty funny stereotypes of americans, and most of them are false. Not everybody from California surfs! Suprising? Look it up online, send an email to a city planner, get the DL on what goes on, on the ground floor.

I would say no and yes. Everything always depends on something...personality, perspective, politics/government that is your idea of the US democracy..blah blah. It also depends what part of the U.S. you go to. I'm in california and it's so so. You would like to take into consideration the weather and food you like. For the most part California is diverse!! that's the cool thing about it. A downfall: public schools aren't as great because the government doesn't provide with enough funds. If you come for a trip/vacation you'll be fine.

People from other countries think so. As someone born and raised in the US I know it has some cool things but that does not mean we are all millionaires for example. Most are not. Only a tiny portion of this country are millionaires.

It must be pretty darn cool, because we are having a hell of a time stopping people from coming here.

Some places are very nice and cool, while others are just absolute trash.
