The only "independent minded" person I know of is 'newborn baby', cos they're not influence by anything you say since their mind is not yet program to do so. As for adult, we collective acquire information from various media to help us make decision. So at some point in time we are influenced by others to make our decision.
Good question but tricky.

it depends on what you mean...I think that, to make up your mind, you are always influenced by other opinions, wheather you understand it or not...so I guess I do what I think is best but if I need others' experience I definetly ask for opinions...
