The reason the towers were bombed both times was because we are in Iraq. The fact that we went into Kuwait because Sadam Husein was attacking them never sat well with Bin Laden who considers the western culture to be an immoral and corrupting influence on Islam. Kuwait was also heavily influenced with western culture through the influence of the oil investments we had there. It does not help that our present administration is heavily influenced by the oil business.

Islamic fundamentalists wanted to impose Islamic theocracies in the middle east. They started by trying to take over their own countries peacefully through elections, when that didn't work they started terrorizing their own people, and when that didn't work they tried to provoke a western power into a regional war to unite the people behind them. The attacks on 9/11 was meant to draw the US into a regional war and we fell for it hook line and sinker. Now terrorist recruitment is at an all time high, and countries like Iran who have a very young and moderate population are electing right wing fanatics to lead them. Should we start a war with Iran it will make things even worse.
