Well the real American people would be the Native Americans, who were here when America was "discovered". Then you could say it was the religious groups that came and settled here. They were English, Scottish, Dutch, German, Irish. Then everyone else came along after.

Me...born & raised in America (with a capital A)
My Irish grandparents came over on a ship with 9 kids & they all worked hard too make a living here & they all spoke proper English.
