Does anyone have some knowledge on shifting problems with these transmissions? I have a 99 GTP that I just
bought used. I feel that it revs way higher than it should (~5-6000 rpm) at highway speeds. So I went to a parts store and got them to do a free scan on the PCM computer. A DTC
code of P0756 came up. It refers to the the "2-3 Shift Solenoid Valve Performance". The info the parts place gave me on P0756 states that if the PCM commands 1st gear, but the gear ratio indicates 4th gear for 2 seconds, or, if the PCM commands 2 gear, but the gear ratio indicates 3rd gear for 1 second then DTC P0756 sets. This has the following action:
-The PCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp
-The PCM commands 3rd gear
-The PCM commands max line pressure
-The PCM inhibits TCC
-The PCM freezes shift adapts
-The PCM stores DTC P0756 in it's history
Would I be correct in telling the tranny guys to basically not fool around and just go straight to the 2-3 shift solenoid? Suggestions?

well, you know where the shop is going to start, but they should be pulling the codes the same way that you did to get a starting point. but you may have one of two simple problems, or a variation of either of these. one: you may have a mis-calibrated detent cable ( if i remember correctly, or possibly the throttle cable) used to basically tell the transmission what kind of load that we are under, and if we should shift or if we should hold off for a little longer. or you may have an issue with the vacuum modulator which would give you much the same problems.
now, if you have a computer controlled transmission, you may not find those two problems, but a shop will definitely be your best bet.

you would have shifter cable situation but in addition an additional situation used to be this gtp a brilliant charged engine whether it is and on account that the g/p used to be a base mannequin w/o a brilliant charged engine specific equipment ratio's will trigger the examine engine gentle and you will not be in a position to close it off until you substitute the inner constituents (planetary gears and pushed and force sprockets)
