Free license to get out all of life's aggression! How cool is that??
You check somebody who cuts in front of you in line at the store, you are probably going to have to talk to a cop about it. In hockey, your coach gives you praise for doing it!
Everybody, nerds, jocks, etc. have different stresses and hockey is an excellent way to channel those frustrations. I'm not saying that it has to always be taken out on the other players either, I love dumping out a bucket of pucks and shooting till my arms go numb when I get stressed. I feel 1000 times better afterwords.
Don't take it too personally, it's much, much better that they have an outlet to channel their aggressions, competitive natures, and stresses in a semi-controlled situation.

The adrenaline rush is the best part. I can understand why a guy like Chelios keeps at it. Beer league just doesn't provide the same feeling as serious hockey-but it's better than no hockey.

One of the few places we can be that predator we are at core. Hockey's a game of physical dominance, just like other contact sports, but probably more so than any of the others.
It's good to be able to express that, where everyone mutually agrees it's all right.
I don't think it's that we're different out there, just that we're showing a side of ourselves we usually keep repressed or we'd wind up in jail.

Having played for 30+ years, all I know is that there is a code. Very few guys are goons, and very few guys go out to hurt. The constant contact and struggles for positioning cause friction amongst the teams. And, it is a TRUE team sport. In baseball it is all about a guy hitting a homer to win it...in football, (Manning) one or two players can win the game in one play. Hockey, you need to rely on 5 other guys to do their part of their is little chance. That frustration builds and causes scirmishes.

Because you get to "check" your opponent. And deep down inside your mind, your going to blast your opponent into the boards as hard as you can. Kinda like in football, except hockey has a tradition of fighting on the ice. If you think that's bad when you shoot the puck at the goal, some guys "accidentally" aim at the goalies "protected areas"

Hockey is a way to let out anger. You be surprised how the people that appear nice on the outside are once you get a stick in their hands.....

I can literally think of HUNDREDS of players that contradict what you say here. That said, it sounds like you're dealing with kids. Kids are kids. They'd likely be the same out on the playground or in a gym.

Why are costume parties so wild? Something about dressing up and diving in flips switches in people's heads.
