After I telnet into my iDirect satcom modem, and access the > prompt, how can I access linux from there?

Without using the console port on the back.

If you telnetted from linux and want to access it again with the telnet running then you do a
Ctrl-]
Ctrl-z

If you are trying to telnet to another system from the modem then you need to type
telnet
