or any other advice about Vegas at this time of year.

I go to the Valley of Fire every time I go to Vegas - unless the weather is too hot. It's about an hour to an hour and a half out of town and is in the middle of nowhere so you'll want a full tank of gas and some food and water. I don't remember exactly how to get there so I can't give you directions.

There's a walking path called Mouse's Tank that has Indian petroglyphs along the walls of the path. It's so beautiful and peaceful out there so it's a great break from the constant noise of Vegas. The entire drive through the park is lovely and you can head past Lake Meade on your way back to the city.

The Hoover Dam is interesting but often quite crowded. The Red Rock Canyon drive is nice and I understand that Mt Charleston is very scenic too but do mind the weather up there at this time of year (snow, ice already).

Las Vegas weather is unpredicable this time of year. It can be warm and sunny in the morning, and get cold and windy by the evening (like it is today). Be sure to pack accordingly.

Now that winter is approaching, a day trip to Death Valley is a lot of fun. It is an all day deal, though. Leave first thing in the morning and get back to LV after dark. Typically, you can see most of the major sites in Death Valley, including Scotty's Castle and a run on the sand dunes.

Boulder City and Hoover Dam are also fun. The Dam can be crowded at times, though. Boulder City has a lot of history related to the dam and has a "Small Town USA" downtown with cool shops and cafes. The drive from BC around the lake to Logandale is scenic. You can stop by Valley of Fire on the way.

My favorite day trip is Mt Charleston - Toiyabe National Forest

35 Miles North of LV on I-95

Mt Charleston is almost 12K ft so it can get a little cool - There are hiking trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, old growth forest, awesome views, lodge, etc.

The Grand Canyon is an awesome sight, but IMO it's more than a "day" trip, because for the best show it's a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive each way.

Valley of Fire has already been mentioned and IMO it's much better than Red Rock Canyon.

Hoover Dam - I would avoid this one for now, because of the terror alert and construction at the dam, traffic is backed up for miles. They stop every car and inspect every truck & van.

Try the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. It has walking paths, museums, and re-creates Las Vegas' past. It is located at 333 S. Valley View Blvd. North on 95 two miles above the strip. It just opened this year in June.

Hoover Dam and then go to BOulder City.
A great place and lots of free stuff the Museum and shopping. Also you can get some real cool stuff to take home to the friends cheaper than at the downtown locations. Same stuff.
Great Mexdican restaurant on the main street.
Do not speed and do not go through a yellow light. This town is a cop haven and they love to give tickets.
I live in Henderson.
From Excal to Boulder City weekdays under 50 minutes.
You will love it there.

Everyone said the red rock canyon is great. I can't tell if you are a girl or a guy. If you are a girl there is a huge Outlet mall at Prim Valley by state line.
If you are a guy there is a huge car race track on the north end. Also check out the Guinness Museum of world records.

During our trip to vegas last year we drove to the Grand Canyon. It took all day but the drive was well worth it!! To me visiting it is a must! In fact we are going again in about two weeks!
If you go to the Grand Canyon make sure to do all that they offer! We did the hellicopter tour and the river tour as well as the rim dinner and it was all money well spent!
Have fun!

Well if you like Rock and Roll, check out either the Hard Rock Hotel, which is off the strip ... and also check out a cool bar called the "Double Down" they've got the best jukebox ever !

Try the Hoover dam. Really nice view this time of year. Take a jacket with you. The nights get chilly.

There's a lot to do & see in Vegas, so pace yourself!

Also, make sure your money, credit cards & ID are very secure.
