Why does the world hate Americans?

I know we have a terrible president to say the least, but cut the common American some slack! We're not terrible! GIve us a chance, world!

I know there are many people that like us and would love to be here. There are also those that have been turned off by our pious holier than though attitude that some of our people have shown when visiting other countries. Sometimes our people act like no one else has any intelligence. If they only knew that we have to go to other countries to get our scientists and mathematicians...etc. Everyone has value. Mmm

The world doesn't hate Americans, the media has you believing that lie. I am sure some people of the world hold a lower opinion of us because of our presidents policies and actions in office, but hate is too strong word to describe how they feel about us. Liberal media sources like to push this issue in an attempt to convince, people like you, that we must end this war. We must get out now or no other countries will ever cooperate with us again. Let me put a question to you. Why do you care what the rest of the world thinks of us? Do you think for one moment that those countries will stop dealing with us? Do you think they will stop accepting those American dollars flowing in? Is your devotion to America or other countries? Have you ever heard the saying, "You cannot please everyone!" Usually when you try it become one big mess. My point is that we have to do what is best for us as a country, regardless of how the rest of the world views us. If you don't agree with me and feel that what I have said is false, explain why we have people beating down the door to get in? You realize this means that other counties have people beating down the door to get out. Apparently, we are doing something right. Explain that.

It's not just the president. Americans are portrayed as either totally stupid and ignorant or totally up themselves. Australians tend to value a certain down-to-earth and humourous quality, and Americans (are portrayed) to just take everything too seriously: it's all about winning and success.
I'm not saying that it's true though. I haven't met many Americans but every one that I've met have been really top blokes. But when you've got a preseident who confuses Australia for Austria and ctors like Tom Cruise who think they are no. 1 and jump on Oprah's couch, it's no wonder the world is mislead.

The world hears from our elected leaders,Like Mrs. Poloski, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, they have compared Bush to Hitler, and questioned his intentions by saying that fighting in Iraq was a political ploy and had nothing to do with the 911 bombings. They all hate bush. it’s a common tread among all these gutter types. They should talk, their pol ratings are below bush. I think the senate is at 11 % which was the last time I checked.

The problem is that too often we like to make them think that we are better than them and they see that we are not. Too often the world does not see the common American but rather the one who has the money to go to their country and expect to be treated as royalty there.
They see the Americans who waste what they would love to have and then complain that it is not enough, who can not live on $5 a day when they are living on $1
They see that we go into their country to fight corrupt leadership and yet we do not fight the corrupt leadership in our own country.
There are a lot of people in other countries that do not hate Americans, but there Are too many Americans who hate them regardless of where they are.
We have some states in the U.S. where there are groups seeking to leave the U.S and form their own country, so until we solve our own problems and not worry about theirs we can not expect to be on the list of nations they love.

People in the world DON'T HATE AMERICANS, they might hate the people from USA!!!!

We all are Americans, from Chile to Canada, not only the people from the United States.. maybe that's why sometimes we cannot stand you, because you thing you're the center of the universe when you're not

Plus, we don't hate your people per se, we hate what you represent, the lack of common sense and the selfish and stupid acts of your goverment

LOL, I have met alot of americans and the ones I met travelling were mostly really good people.

However, the fact that America has such a bullying attitude to the rest of the world and considers itself the worlds policeman, when there are some fundamentally flawed things about your country and people don't seem to give a crap when they vote for essentially the same person every 4 years....

HA HA some of the answers are funny! Practically every country in the world (apart from Australia apparently) has a bill of rights.... Maybe Americans ignorance of the rest of the world should be added to the list....

Plus, you don't even have a decent rugby team... how can you be considered civilised???

Americans are nice people. They are friendly, straight-forward and extremely helpful.

I think certain actions that have resulted in violence and bloodshed can be attributed to USA. Hence Americans get the blame.

I believe the best way to eliminate your enemies is to convert them to your friends. I am sure initiating military adventures without the approval of the international community and the UN and claiming the booty of the victory actually paints a bad picture of Americans.

I think it has a lot to do with capitalism and things like that. It's hard for us to see the big picture because we've been here since our birth, it's normal to us. but for the most part, it's all about money for us. I'm not talking about you and me, I'm talking about HUGE companies including the FDA, Pharmaceutical Companies, Insurance Companies.... George Bush was paid almost a million dollars to sign a Bill that would allow Drug companies to charge whatever they want for their pills and such. It's terrible. That's a fact by the way. We let the poor stay poor while the rich feeds off of them. Does that sound accurate to you? We let bums die in the street, we don't give a crap about them, we're selfish. We have starving people everywhere we go even though it wouldn't have to be that way. We are the richest and most powerful country in the world but like I said, these big companies just want to keep getting richer and that's one of our major flaws. Because money is power and most of us don't have any of either. I could go on for days about this.

Don't take offence, but if you really want to know;
- People think you're arrogant. I have found this in most Americans I've met. Like there's a definite sense of them thinking they're better
- They CARRY ON about stuff that's so trivial! Just GET OVER it man!
- They've got a mean sense of humour or a very 'slapstick' sense of humour.
- It took September 11 for Americans to wonder if the rest of the world dislikes them.
- While September 11 was a horrible, horrible tradgedy and very sad, worse things happen in other countries every day. Bigger deaths and tradgedies happen everywhere. They're lucky if they get a small column in the paper.
- The Bombing of Darwin in WW2 was bigger and more destructive than the bombing of Pearl Harbour. Where's our history mention or movie?
- Your president. Why have there been no assisination attempts? Very dissapointing!
- America has always been secretive and dodgy when it comes to their government. Yet they don't allow it with other countries and will feel free to overthrow a government if they don't agree with it. While Sadam needed to be de-throned, it should have been his people who did it, not the US.
- Generally, people find them stuck-up, noisy and annoying.
