Im 37 1/2 weeks and went into the hospital two days ago. I was moitored and confirmed that I was having contractions, I was dialated 1&1/2 centimeters. Before I got there, I was having contractions pretty badffor about two days. Now all is calm. I thought I was going to have a baby. How can contractions and dialation just stop. This is my second pregnancy and the first time when I had contractions that painful they only got stronger and I delivered the next day. Why didn't it just keep progressing until I gave birth

How can it be Braxton Hicks contractions, they were never painful for me. These contractions took my breathe and I could not talk or move during them. And how is it false labour if it caused me to dialate? I was not dialated before this happned.

Especially being your second pregnancy you'll feel everything so much more, but as why it stopped as you were dilating is a little wierd other wise it could have been braxton hicks. Did the hospital staff tell you why it may have stopped or any reason?

At 32 wks I went into early labor with my son and was 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced. They stopped it with meds. At 36 wks I went into a more active labor with regular increasing contractions and dialated to 5 cm and 90% effaced. Suddenly the dialation stalled and the contrations weren't as strong for about 5 hrs. Then all of a sudden after I took a long shower and a nap the contractions started back up fullforce and I went from 5- fully dialated in about 1 hr. It stalled because the cord was around my sons neck and the Dr didn't know because it happened after his last ultrasound. So yes it can stall. When you go into active labor though it shouldn't stop but if your water breaks and the labor doesn't get going they will probably help you along.
Walk around lots and take warm baths or showers and have sex/orgasms and see if that helps start everything back up again. Goodluck and congrats.

They were braxton hicks. Happened to me with the 2nd too. And they will show up on the monitor's because they are real contractions, but just not real active labor. I went into the hospital more than once with my 2nd because of this...so frustrating.. But just be assured that your body is doing the right thing. The braxton hicks are meant to prepare you and to help dialate you. Plus my doctor told me that I probably had them with my first, but you don't feel them quite as well until your second. Something to do with the uterus already having dealt with it before.

completely normal. Most women will dilate a few centimeters before they go into labor. The contractions are probably practice contractions, or very well may be the first stages of labor. (Sometimes a woman can be in the first stages of labor for a few weeks.) Being your second child I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't have that baby within the next few days. However, even if you don't, don't fret. That baby will come out when (s)he is good and ready. I didn't have my second child till my forth trip to the hospital. hang in their and congratulations! It'll all be over soon enough.

Its called Braxton Hicks. The same thing happened to me. Whenever you get those walk around to see if the get worse, becuase faux contractions are supposed to calm down. If it gets worse drink a bottle of water and lay down. If the get worse start timing them and call you doctor, because you may have your baby a little early.

Because the child wasn't ready yet. If they thought there might be any danger they would dialate you are go in for a c-section. Many women that have had kids had some easy the others harder. As women get older it gets harder though.

It's just your body gearing up. The further you can dilate now the better! Trust me you are not alone. Many times with my girls I went to the hospital with contractions only to find out I was dilated but not "ready". You're almost there so just hang in there!

This is called "false labor pains"...it could happen more than once and it could happen several times before the real thing comes along. You will know - when the real thing comes along as you have in the 1st pregancy...

Braxton-Hicks. It can happen to anyone. Walk it out and your kid will always take his/her sweet time doing anything.
