Use substitution. Solve the first equation for x by subtracting 2y x= 3- 2y Now plug 3- 2y in for x in the second equation 4y - 3 (3- 2y)= 1 4y- 9 + 6y = 1 10y= 10 y=1

1. 8m+3 = 5m + 15
solve for m: 8m - 5m = -3 + 15

3m = 12
m = 4
