Buddhists teach "original Buddha Mind," Christians "this Mind which was also in Christ Jesus," and so on.
"Primal mind" is also a term for bicameral, which is a bit speculative.
However, if you haven't read "The Origin of Consciousness..." by Julian Jaynes. that would be perhaps useful.
But Western thought is generally credited with changing at around the time of Descartes--the "father of modern philosophy," to a more reductionist view of dualism, in which mind or soul is distinct from matter.
