In the current age of instant media, fast action, quick cuts, and instant gratification, the mass appeal of baseball has greatly diminished.
As you say, it is a ball and bat, but have you ever tried hitting a ball traveling at 90 mph with a bat? Baseball is a thinking man's game. The duel between pitcher and batter can be very intriguing if you take the time to understand the nuances and strategy involved. Do you throw the batter a fastball on the outside corner or an off-speed curve that drops out of the strike zone? As a batter, can you anticipate where the pitch will go and get a base hit?
Personally, the thing about baseball I enjoy the most is watching good defense. When you see the shortstop dive for a ball and throw it from his knees perfectly to 1st base, that's incredibly athletic.
More so then all of that, the reason why so many Americans like baseball is tradition. It's a sport that father's have been taking their sons to watch for over 100 years. It's a sport that is, in a sense, all-American. It's our game...accept no imitation.

You can say that about any sport you don't watch or were not raised on. I for one cannot get how anyone could watch or play a soccer game, but yet it's the most popular sport in the world. Is the rest of the world crazy? Probably, but they still get something out of it that is lost on me. As for hockey, it barely registers in the US, but you Canadians seem to love it. I am a casual fan, but I cannot get that into it unless my team is doing well, and considering my team is the Blackhawks I haven't been following the NHL much lately. Now I could have spent the last few minutes bashing soccer and ripping all the crazy hockey fans out there, but I tried to keep it civil and make my point at the same time. Now if you really want to bash a sport..........HOW THE HELL DOES ANYONE STAY AWAKE WATCHING GOLF???

And let's see Canada has better? Umm lets see curling lets push some rocks down a sheet of ice with a broom. Sounds like fun I think i am going to go start my own curling team. Honestly the only exciting thing to ever happen in curling was when the guy streaked with the chicken during a curling match in the last winter olympics.

Dissolve the Blue Jays immediately. Take baseball out of a completely ungreatful country, Canada.
Come on, man. Why even waste the time to come on here and type all that when you can just ask that question to your stuffed teddy bear you dry hump all night while dreaming your country had a relevant sport like baseball. Gimme a break. You're absolutely pathetic. Go home, eh?

Chacon a son gout, as the French say; it is definitely not a taste for everyone. There is a lot of time during which not much interesting happens. But when something does happen, it can be quite fascinating. It is definitely a kick to see someone pull off a suicide squeeze.

Why do Canadians bring guns to the mall and overuse the word Eh?
The world may never no.
P.S. You couldn't hit more Homers than Bonds in a video game.

I do hate baseball. Only thing worse than it in my opinion is football. HATE IT SO MUCH. My favorite sports include things like field hockey and soccer.

Have you heard of the word "narcissistic", sir. The description is so like you. You must read it! http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/narcissistic
My husband is one person who used to love watching golf. I kid you not. Borrrring.
Our son got him into baseball and he loves it. I asked DH to teach me this summer and he did!
(I thought of learning football, but there is no way. I can't even remember the first lesson.)
BTW, sir, both my dad and my husband were born in Canada. I am shocked at the disrespect you have shown to your neighbors to the south.

Hypocrite.
I actually am a big hockey fan myself, but to come on here and lambast someone else's sport just because you find it boring? That's pretty lame. You live in Canada, for heaven's sake. Talk about boring.
