Even when an answer seems good, I have to check out the person's profile to see what kind of person they are. If they have a high best answer, or everything's private and they seem detached, I'll be turned off from picking their answer as best. But if someone seals the deal by having something funny or honest in their profile, I feel a bit guilty because it might not technically have been the best answer. I guess I lean towards answers that seem more from the heart.
So what do you guys think? Are profiles a factor? Or do you just go with the answer?

But even if the answer is good, isn't it prudent to verify the source? A lame person gives bad advice.

It is indeed possible for one who is choosing a Best answer to feel as though it is a favor to the answerer since he/she earns a whopping 10 points thereby. In such a case, it would be natural to look at who is being granted the favor. I honestly can't claim that I never get affected by such a mentality, but that happens when I am not entirely satisfied with any of the answers.
More often than not, the answer picks itself up on its own by the impact it creates on my mind, and I find no occasion for a second thought as to profiles or avatars etc.

I choose the answer which i feel is good and right. Their avatar and profile or even at what level they are doesn't matter me:)
Unless and until the answer is good. I may say that looking into the profile of an user and picking the best answer for them does'nt sounds right;)
Only good and correct answer which inspires me will be chosen the best answer.:). Their level nor profile nor avatar does'nt matter!=)))
Have a great day!=) :)

I just go with the answer I like. I usually don't even look at the avatars or anything. Why judge people's answers on who they are rather than the content of their answer?
That's like saying someone that dresses in some dark goth style can't give good answers about math, or a geek can't give good answers about music. People are a lot deeper than what a paragraph and an icon can portray.

When I post a question I am only looking for answers to that particular question. I don't usually look at their other answers, they might have had an off day or have a quirk or pet peeve about a certain issue, and just because I might feel differently on a different issue does not make me value their answer to my particular question any less.

No, I don't. You're not judging the answer on it's merits, but rewarding people who you like. That defeats the whole idea of choosing the Best Answer.
But if it's close or a tie, I pick the girl with the cutest avatar.

No, I choose the answer that makes most sense or has been most helpful to me. I don't even look at the profile when I'm choosing.

Nope, profile is not a factor for me... I choose the best answer based on several aspects such as the uniqueness, effort, and the most correct one

If someone's answer really interests me, I'll have a look at their profile and maybe send a message.
But it doesn't affect who I choose as the best answer.
At least,
I don't think it does.
