This is a science project on finding out which color of light will heat up water the fastest. So basically, i will use artificial light to heat the water in a jar. But to measure the temperature, i need a few thermometers. The ones that can go into water. Does anyone have any idea where to buy any?

You can buy submersible thermometers in pet stores that are meant to be used in fish tanks.

Since you're not going to want to spend a lot, you can also look in places like WalMart or home improvement stores to find cheap thermometers with a plastic backing. Since the actual thermometer is just the glass with the liquid inside, that's all you really need. The thermometer is usually just held to the backing by wire.

I'm not sure why you'd need to use more than one - as long as you allow about 5 minutes so the temperature adjusts, using the same thermometer would reduce one possible source of error in your measurements.

You can also use cooking thermometers or even fever thermometers, if the temperatures are in an appropriate range. Maybe you can borrow some laboratory-grade thermometers. Be sure to calibrate them, and even measure temperature differences with the same thermometer. Also assure that the color of the light is the only difference (not the intensity), and that everything else is controlled. Be sure it's the water the light is heating, not some other objects.
