Maybe because it's all about the test scores now and not teaching people how to think - not to pick on this person, but if you really read this (below in " ") - part of an answer, it's not logical. If the parents care and are working, then their child is not going to think the government will provide for them. Caring and working (& even some non-working) parents are going to teach their kids that they do need to go to school, and that the government isn't going to take care of them.
There are always exceptions to the rules.
Really read this paragraph -
"In the rare case that you have parents that care, or are able to work less than 50-60 hours a week, the students don't care because they have been taught that the government will provide for them and that there is no reason to succeed or be good at what you do."
And maybe it's because teachers do stupid things like put orange cones around a child's desk (2nd grade - who is already being made to sit away from the rest of the kids) and forbids the other children to talk to him, or get something that was accidently knocked off his desk, which a little girl did and she got in trouble. She didn't even talk to him - she just handed him the pencil - he hasn't been included in any of the group activities for a month - and then gets segregated even more with orange cones! he isn't allowed to leave the orange cone area or talk to anyone while in it. Why is it so horrible?
Good ?

Why do all the bright minds from across the world want to come here for degrees? Why do we still have majors for upcoming teachers to study and learn in college? We have some teachers that put out their own money for supplies. That's called dedication. Oops..that word might go over your head. Just a common worker here. It's called funding.

Well, the problem starts at home. Either the parents don't care, or they have to work 60 hour weeks.
If the parents care, the teachers are more concerened with striking for cheaper healt care "for the students" or they are too worried about preaching their own political agendas, or they got into teaching because they had summers off. Not to mention the fact that all they are concerend with is getting tenure, so they don't have to worry about being fired, or they are totally against standards and testing of their capabilites to teach.
Or you have groups that teach people that red marks on tests are negative, or that the honour roll makes students who don't make it 'feel bad'.
In the rare case that you have parents that care, or are able to work less than 50-60 hours a week, the students don't care because they have been taught that the government will provide for them and that there is no reason to succeed or be good at what you do.
For all the people saying we don't spend enough that is crap. We spend more money on education than most other countries.
Other things that bring our system down are illegal aliens andworrying about being 'bilingual' in schools so we don't offend some border jumper who doesn't want to learn English, let alone obey our laws.

Decode this lyrics " Let your love grow"
Don't think it's that bad.
Just blunders and slip-ups with human errors created back in the past being expose in time in the new millenium after the mystery of us-911.
The mess is not only back home.
But a world-wide mess with Afghanistan and Iraq as a living examples of education system gone awry.
When we don't even know the function of an education system/
Ever wonder how we ask our little one to go to school and leave them as that.
Taking for granted they have the knowledge for living in the real world.
In time they were at loss and blurr when they could not survive out there.
Others in other parts were late in advancing in time.
So when the US got hit.
They took for granted the were safe.
When they were not.
Without realising they were in the same mess too which is showing signs of creeping out too.
Ever wonder how the "Old man " blindly came up with " No child left behind" is not only for the little ones back home.
But for all the little ones world-wide.
Look in the real world at the mess out there.
Were all created by 'The young one" born and raised by the dead Mummy getting kick on the butts as casulaty of the dead Mummy in not worshiping God.

There is no reason to become a public school teacher. You are either going to be really determined, which is unlikely, or you can not get a job at a private school which would pay more. The schools are being damaged by No Child Left Behind and funding is terrible. Lets face it, the taxes are not going to schools, they are going to wars.

I think it has something to do with funding. It's hard teaching in an overcrowded classroom and school. Also your teacher's salary is pitiful compared to other western nations. That can be really demotivating for teachers, knowing they're earning waaaay less than anyone else who has a degree.
Also your curriculum is too politicized. By that I mean that politicians choose the curriculum to win votes, but actually don't provide much for real learning. Compare that with Australian curriculums where it is still politicized a bit, but it lets teachers teach for understanding and teaching students how to be independent learners, rather than just a recollection of facts, dates and figures.
But it really isn't that bad. Compare it with a third world nation and you'll see.

It's the children's attitude towards learning. Those who have a positive attitude towards learming get high grades and eventually good jobs. But there are only a few of those kids out there. Also, the standard of education in the United States is lower than the standard of education on other countries.

Not all teachers are lousy. The system is too concerned with standerarized testing. They're just worried about bringing up test scores. The No Child Left Behind is not doing anything to resolve this problem. Teachers are on tight schedule to teach everything they have to cover for what's going to be on those state tests. They're overworked and underpaid.

Because there are we todded teachers who give pounds of HW and most of the time the students are trying to complete the HW to get a good grade rather than actually learning. Teachers need to chill especially nerdy Biology teachers who think its ok to give students a 10 page lab worksheet to be completed in one hour.
Don't get me wrong though. There are some very chill and cool teachers who really teach well because they know how to balance out the HW.

The government gives money based on how many are in classes and gives an incentive to have really stupid kids hold back everybody else. The PC nonsense prevents teachers from properly managing kids. Parents are idiots and don't allow their kids to be disciplined. Principals will not sacrifice federal dollars to remove criminals.....
