That's a big fat NOPE. We were getting there, but it's all gone down hill in the last 6+ years.

Oh, yeah....all of us hippie liberals love abortion. We get knocked up just so we can have them. (insert eyerolling). Nobody likes abortion, moron. What we like is the option.

You don't get to pick life when it's convenient. It's all or nothing. No abortion, No death penalty, no DNR.

No. Life, Liberty, Pursuit of Happiness are the ideals. I saw a TV program about Josef Stalin the other night, he is widely known as an even worse tyrant than Hitler, maybe the worst of all time. It mentioned in passing that Stalin had 2.4 million people locked up in his prisons. Thats the same number we have here. Another 400,000 are expected to come flooding in in the next few years. Experts say Russia is doomed to failure because of the Stalinist prison system, it built a society where criminality and disloyalty are survival values. That will be the same problem here. Its so Marxist! The system carries the seeds of its own destruction. We have freely voted this country into being, evidently, an even bigger prison based state than Soviet Russia was and so we have doomed ourselves. Too bad.

Not entirely. But--the unique thing about America, with all its good and bad points--is that we (most of us) do try---and year by year, taking one step back for every two forward--we keep getting a little clser to those ideals.

Slave trading was once permitted--then we eliminated that. Then slavery itself. Then women got the vote. Over time, the average living conditions and economic well-being has improved to a degree unheard of in history--with opportunities no one could have dreamed of. And more widely available as African-Americans have won civil rights and entrance into our educational and economic and political institutions, alng with women and other minorities.

It's NOT perfect. probably won't ever be. But --year by year, decade by decade-our union gets a little more perfect.

Of course not! As mankind has always strived for the perfection of the gods or God, America has strived for these ideals but fallen short. Some of our failures have been large and tragic such as slavery, bigotry, poverty, violence and corruption.

But we continue to strive to correct these failures. Future generations may solve them all. I know of no other country where the people have the ability to achieve these ideals for themselves, to the extent they do here. Here the failures are the exception for individuals that learn to fight for these ideals and for themselves.

not lately....The arts of power and it's minions are the same in all countries and in all ages. It marks it's victim; denounces it; and excites the public odium and the public hatred, to conceal it's own abuses and encroachments. ( Henry Clay, March 14, 1834 )

Yes, we have some bad apples, but we have done very good in the last 300 or so years.

Yeah, every crook says I didn't do it, too. Laws are meant to catch crooks and now terrorists need to be also. The patriot act allows that, I'm not one for letting terrorist get away.
