My 12-year old daughter's name is Rowan Elizabeth and ever since the day she was born, I've wanted to plant a Rowan in our yard. Although I understand now wouldn't be the time to do it, I thought now would be the time to start researching it! :)

First of all, I live in the Northeast (Mass), and was wondering if it would even be feasible? Secondly, I have checked some of the local nurseries around (ages ago though), and no one seemed to no anything really about them.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

***Hello. I am a Certified Master Gardener.***

The Rowan/Mountain Ash is a beautiful tree.

Ask at the plant nursery for it by its botanical name:

SORBUS AMERICANA

Some nurseries will special order plants and trees.

It needs little or no pruning, and has few pests or diseases.

I would like to recommend a book:

"Where On Earth---A Guide to Specialty Nurseries and Other Resources for California Gardeners." by Barbara Stevens and Nancy Conner.

Green thumbs up to you.

Fall is the absolute best time to plant a shade tree. Mountain Ash trees are beautiful but short-lived; not an almost-forever tree like an oak or a maple.
