Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

windows is doing a neat shutdown , and closing services and any open applications. Thats stuff like messanger, mail , virus scanners and anything else thats left running all the time. There is a timeout delay to let those close properly.

You can exit some of those manually and get a shorter shutdown time .

You can also choose to Hibernate your system rather than shutdown. Hibernate is shift-standby and powers off your system .

do not open lot of tabs in browsers - that takes toll on memory

Go to Start
-->Run
-->Type "regedit"
-->Navigate to the following two keys and change them from their default value of 20,000 to something more desirable, perhaps 4,000 5x faster right?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>WaitToKillServiceTimeout
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Control Panel >Desktop> WaitToKillAppTimeout

Now, let me warn you, I've used these tweaks myself from another site and they work fine on MY machine, but i can give yuo NO gurantee that they will work on yours, and really this is only handme down advice....but I hope that helps, please make a backup just in case....i warned you...
