My point is that joe torre is so overrated as a manager. He came on at the right time at the right place. Somebody called him "the legendary" joe torre. Does anybody remember when he manged da cardinals & braves....they sucked!!! The yankees cuold've been managed by steinbrenner from "96 to 2001 & still be champions.

You're right in your assessment of Torre, but you'll still be vilified on this board.

Like you said, Torre wasn't a winning manager with the Cards and Braves, coming to New York with a losing career record. With the help of baseball's highest payroll and an all-star lineup, he won four World Series titles. To me, all that proves is that he can win with a good team, but will lose if given a bad team. He's no worse than most managers, but neither is he a groundbreaking strategist like John McGraw or Earl Weaver.

Torre did a good job with the Yankees, but there are several managers who could have led this group to multiple titles. And while he gets the credit for those titles, he also gets none of the blame for their failure to win recently, which is very odd. He's a good guy, but in no way is he a legendary manager.

So far no one has addressed the question that you ask, Joe Torre will NOT manage the Pirates. The Pirates have many other places to spend their money on rather than dishing it out to a manager. Let's face it, a manager will only win several games a year with his decisions, he first must have a team that is competitive. The Pirates have not reached that level yet. They must concentrate on developing and aquiring the talent that a good manager can win with. Joe Torre on the other hand, will get to manage another good team if he still wants to manage!

likely the perfect question in a lengthy time period! i trust that Torre will be extra back. i imagine George did his favourite enable's pressure the guy to win by technique of putting his interest on the line and perchance he will win the series. That way by no skill works. If something, it makes the crew play worse. which will be on their concepts the finished interest and their concentration might want to be shifting between the game and massive Joe. like you suggested with each and every of the playoff apps, WS victories, Divison Titles, etc... that is a incredible factor. Torre has been on top ever because he joined the Yankees. George is making it sound like the Yankees were in useless very last and were a guffawing inventory to the baseball international. They were some distance from that! some communities might want to kill to have what the Yankees have (minus the payroll). A crew might want to like to make the playoffs 365 days after 365 days after 365 days. although, the only element operating adversarial to Torre on the on the spot might want to be the american acceptance. Their rep is to win 365 days after yer after 365 days. the very undeniable truth that they have got not received a international series identify because 2000, makes George somewhat uneasy. He were given so use to being on top and continually triumphing. And now that they dont have that, that is hard for him to settle for that and take care of the placement like a gentleman -- no longer an fool like he's now. Torre is between the perfect managers their are. he's calm, cool, and picked up. He has an excellent way with the media, and all and multiple he works with. yet another element is who might want to they convey in? I easily have found flaws in each and every candidate -- the significant ones being Mattingley and Girardi. Tony l. a. Russa's call even were given thrown into the blend. Mattingley is in basic terms too eco-friendly and suggested it himself that he become no longer waiting for the managerial interest. l. a. Russa is in basic terms too a lot of a bitter puss and isn't any longer properly loved. finally, Girardi is a wide administration freak and the individuals he might want to artwork with might want to hate him. it really is why he become fired as manager of the Fish. He become too controlling and wasn't properly loved among the gamers, coaches, and something of the employer. for my section, conserving Torre is the in basic terms logical decision that would properly be made! (wish you loved interpreting this essay of an answer.) =D - Joba Chamberlain Jr.

He wasn't a bad manager in Atlanta...he did take a team in 1982 that had 'second division' written all over them, and won an NL West title, so he does have some good work in his past as part of his managing resume'.

And everyone hates on Bobby Cox cuz he only won one WS in 14, yep that's right 14 straight Division titles. Torre is at best the 2nd best manager right now behind B.C.

Overrated, no, however.

you suck...cause you obiviously know nothing about sports...hense forth why girls should stick to nitting cause otherwise we get ppl like susan Waldman!Joe Torre led the yankees to 12 straight postseasons! 4 world series and like 7 alcs titles I think...don't give me bs that it is cause of there payroll...George Steinbrenner is the only owner that obviously understands buisness...you put money into your buisness and you get more out of it! therefore he spends alot of money to get these great players (and great manager)and what does that turn into a PROFIT!!! tell me this 162 gms in a season...you have all stars on your team...therefore 162 gms in a season so yuo have 162 sellouts!!! you do the math it turns into a profit...Torre has good players but I guarantee you lou pinella has that team? they don't go twelve straight postseasons...so your name might as well be susan waldman cause you don't know squat...
