For most teams its for the QB with a headset but in New England it also designates all of the defensive lineman who have headsets in their shoulder pads
and for all of the coaches in the stands videoing the opposing coaches signals

This question has been asked so many times on here that I changed my name to Green dot on helmet.

The real answer: it is a mind control device that causes people to ask that same question every 2 hours.

Either that, or someone forgot to take the price tag off.

Zakk- you are wrong, there are no microphones in the helmet of defensive players. That was voted down by the owners and is why the Pats could videotape the defensive signals of the other team. I think there may be defensive microphones next year because of Bellicheat. There is no way you saw a green dot on Tatupu's helmet. Also, if Seneca Wallace is on the field with Matt Hasslebeck, he has to wear a helmet without a microphone, so he would wear a different helmet than if he is playing QB. He wouldn't wear a green dot helmet when he's playing receiver.

Wow. I thought the NFL did a great job of explaining all of this in the preseason and at the beginning of the season.

But to expand on what Chris L said, it is the one guy on the field that is wearing a microphone in his helmet. So yeah, my Seahawks have their 1st string and second string QB's on the field every now and then, with Matt throwing a pass to Seneca. On the defensive side of the ball, we have Lofa Tatupu wearing the green sticker/microphone. Basically it's going to be the dude calling the plays on the offense (QB) or the dude calling the plays on the defense (middle linebacker in Seattle's case).

I do like the smart *** responses though, they were funny.

The green dot on the back of the QBs helmet, is there so the Referee Knows which member of the offense is wearing a microphone.

It is for the player who's helmet is wired & only one player can have a mic/radio on the field at a time. The green dot is for the refs—if they see more than one on the field they’ll call a penalty. I hope this helps :)

Tom Brady was the first to put a green dot on the back of his helmet as a fashion statement. Now, because all quarterbacks want to be Tom Brady, they have all put the same green dot on their helmets too.

It's just another mark of Tom Brady envy.

the green dot indicates the helmet with the QB mic in it. that way if another QB like Seneca Wallace is on the field lined up at WR, the refs know that Hasselbeck is the only one recieving instructions from the coach

It means the QB is wearing a mic to communicate with the coaches on the sideline or in the press box.

Either it means that those guys have a lot of green (cash) and are getting PAID...or

It means that they are MONEY in crunch time, when the game is on the line. It's one of those two.

Since it's on the QB's helmet that would make sense.

It means it was on sale for 40% off at Dick's Sporting Goods. But that's only good with a purchase of $80 or more.
