It's kind of a self fulfilling prophecy. The media creates the narrative that is perceived as reality. The media says he has no chance, so therefore the reality is that he has no chance. Las Vegas, however, has his odds at among the best, and apparently the oddsmakers have indicated that if his campaign continues to grow as it has been, he will be the favorite. Keep in mind that Bill Clinton was polling at 2% at this juncture before his eventual election. Pat Buchanan won New Hampshire with much less of a campaign that Paul is running. The polls at this juncture are only capturing a small portion of actual likely voters as their criteria is very specific. Ron Paul is going to turn out untold numbers of younger and first time voters those numbers do not reflect. New Hampshire is going to shock a lot of people. And as for the idea of Americans not being ready for the changes Ron Paul would seek, I would answer that we have no choice but to be ready unless we are ready to descend into an increasingly authoritarian oligarchy. We are one attack away from it becoming a reality as it stands right now, with an administration in place that might not necessarily see said attack as a bad thing (see "unitary executive"). It's time to grow up or die.

Gotta put myself in a 5th category — People who cared about voting but never had anybody worthwhile to vote for before running across Ron Paul. My sad sad story: I started seeing these little campaign signs around town last January: "WHO IS RON PAUL?" That's all they said. Nothing else. So I went and looked him up on the internet. All of the disparaging blog comments sounded lame, and all of the positive comments seemed to have a certain .. something. Then I read some stuff he'd written, looked at his congressional record, and finally realized that here was a kindred spirit, somebody I could live next door to, and like it. Unfortunately by that time it was too late for me to register for the Georgia primary, but you can bet I'll be voting for him in the general election. The wind of Liberty blows cool and sweet indeed. :-)

The reality is that most of these straw polls are not done by counties or states, they are done by interest groups.
Saying that, I must note that Dr. Paul is VERY popular with certain groups in the United States, but on a whole he does not have mass appeal. The US is not ready for the change he is suggesting. In fact, they may never be.
Ron Paul has absolutely no chance of winning the nomination, but maybe something more important. He is getting the chance to put his views on the national stage, which I can guarentee has spread his views.
In all, he may never win the nomination, and the country may not be ready for him, but he is sure helping people get ready.

The details accompanying the question are amazing. Ron Paul has got very good fan following. However ,
one wonders as to how the vast following is channelized into election time votes. Also, in the event Ron failing to get nomination , who shall inherit the legacy of such vast following ?

I could care less who the media darlings are
Ron Paul is my candidate of choice in 08
I afree that we should do everything we can to make sure his election is by landslide
that would go along way to telling the rest of politicians that we are sick and tired of the same old garbage

The SAD Reality IS, most people can't handle the Truth. It's easier for them to swallow whatever the Media feeds them- & then complain about it when things go horribly wrong. Ron Paul's voice is lost in the Wilderness of Straw Polls- that everyone hears about & nobody pays any attention to... He's just another nice guy- who never had a chance...

If they keep telling us that , they think we will believe it . This should tell you that this election is over and done as far as the Media is concerned .Ron Paul is not to win so ignore him ( Media's point of view ) Let have the biggest upset in election history and blow them all , right out of the saddle

Because Ron Paul, for all his anti-war rhetoric, is considered by some to be a crackpot.
It may interest you to know, he's also opposed to legal abortion and wants to do away with the Department of Education (as this falls under States rights), among other things.

If reality means that Ron Paul goes away and stops trying to play with the big boys, I'm all for it.
