Hello, I have a packet of 100 questions about the Vietnam War. But I can't find the answer to several of them. If you could please just help me answer at least one of them (or all!) that would be great. Thanks!

1. How did Nixon try to bring about peace in the Vietnam War?

2. How did the protestors influence President Nixon's actions?

3. Who fought against whom in the Vietnam War? (I found a couple but I need all)

4. Why did the U.S. become involved in Vietnam, and why did it increase its involvement into the 1970s? (can't find this one anywhere)

5.What was the intitial public sentiment regarding U.S. involvement in Vietnam?

6. How did the war change under Nixon's administration?

7. Was the Vietnam War popular among American civilians?

That's all. Thank you!

#4 is rather interesting and complex. In the 1950's, France had significant holdings in Vietnam, including business dealings. For example, Michelin Tire had a few rubber tree plantations there. The Communists began taking hold, and eventually forced the French out. In the late 1950s Eisenhower began sending military advisors into South Vietnam. Kennedy escalated this, sending more advisors and even soldiers. The purpose was to prevent the spread of Communism. The US military was using South Vietnam as a major base of operations for the south Pacific, and didn't want to lose it.

#7: The war was popular with the American public very early in Johnson's Administration, but had turned completely against it by 1967. The Vietnam War was a primary reason Johnson didn't run for reelection and for the Democrats losing the White House in 1968.
