Because boot-cut tends to look the most flattering on the most bodies. Of course there are always exceptions.

I'm 42 and I have seen styles come and go, but I think this one, including a lower rise, has stuck around because it is the most flattering to the most people. They've been trying to bring back skinny jeans and higher waisted jeans and trouser jeans, etc. But, while people do wear them, the boot-cut, lower rise jean is still here.

That's why I love fashion right now. You can really find what looks best on you, and feel good about what you wear. In the past, everyone wore the same things, whether it worked for them or not.

The term boot-cut stems from them being snug to the knee and then slightly flaring, allowing them to easily sit over boots.

They're a happy medium between flares and skinnies because some people's legs are too fat for skinnes.
