Energy came from the carbon chain of organic compounds. Carbohydrate, protein and lipid can all provide energy. Lactose and starch are converted to glucose first, and then metabolized. Protein is digested to amino acids, which are then deaminated and metabolized through the Krebs Cycle. Lipids are broken down to fatty acids, which in turn are converted to acetyl coA, which enters the Krebs Cycle.
