A master endocrine gland is one which controls other endocrine glands. TSH, ACTH, FSH etc control other endocrine systems. Hence Pituitary is called the master endocrine gland although it itself is controlled by hypothalamus.

Pituitary is the master endocrine gland.
but it is also controlled by hypothalamus & negative feedback mechanism so this term is now becoming obsolete.
