You may not agree with me,
but, If what Michael Kay said has some weight, then these players will follow the money.
I doubt anyone would take a pay cut even if Joe does come back. Given their ages, they want to make the most out of it before they retire.
Posada might be playing for the Mets anyway.
Yankees will let him go if they want to let him go, but he won't be leaving because the Yankees got outbid. The Yankees NEVER get outbid. They simply will tell him they don't want him.

A Rod will most likely stay. yes, Cashman said they won't get into A Rod sweepstakes if he opts out, but given the history of the Yankees changing their minds, and given that Cashman is good at keeping secrets, plus the fact the A Rod will be a fool to leave New York, he is most likely staying.

This isn't college, where players will opt out of their scholarships when a coach leaves a school. Players who made statements about Torre - they would return only if he did - were showing support, but also looking for the best way to leave a club they didn't want to be associated with in 2008.

The management situation is as screwed up as it was in the last years of CBS in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Hank and Hal Steinbrenner have not been able to consolidate their position, their father fades in and out of coherency due to illness and an old guard is not going quietly.

The players who have spoken out are as concerned about that uncertainty as they are about the treatment of Torre (though it is basically the same issue).

As soon as the World Series is over and everyone that's eligible to leave has the green light, it's going to be a mass exodus for the door! Even guys that are under contract will ask for trades or some way out. The Bronx will be a ghost town by November 1.

How about Rivera, your closer. He has stated that he is not coming back if Torre doesn't.
