Ken Burns put together his series "The War" because he found that over half the high school students he interviewed believed that the United states and Germany were allies and fought the Soviets during WW2.

Now thats a terribly sad statement. In the meantime I look at questions here and the moronic students still ask questions like:
Did Adolf Hitler have any tattoos?
Who was worse, Vlad the Impaler or Adolf Hitler?
Its like comparing apples to oranges. So you see....you may be tired of seeing or hearing about it. Granted I don't need it tossed up at me because I'm well versed as a student of WW2 politics and military matters. But its pretty obvious that the youth of today not only hasn't a clue about the war...but anything else in history for that matter. We've been blessed with no less than 3 generations of simpletons. I sometimes think the only way to hammer something home to those types is by rote.

You should wonder what your life would be like now if we lost that war. We were fighting on two fronts. People stood behind the military. They had to have ration stamps for many items and services that they were needing. They started Victory Gardens and collected scrap metals, etc. for the war effort and didn't cry about it. They did what they had to do so that our side could win. The country rallied behind the men and women risking their lives for us. Unfortunately we won't see that kind of support again because it has become a "Me, Me, Me country . Most people don't give a damn. At that time you had movie actors who joined up in the military...James Stewart, Clark Gable, Robert Montgomery, Audie Murphy (the most decorated serviceman) and many others. Do you see any actors taking time off from their careers at this time doing that?. Certainly not Sean Penn, Danny Glover or Alex Baldwin. " Hanoi" Jane Fonda should be remembered right along with "Tokyo Rose" and "Axis Sally".
Now, what was your question?

no because its a daily reminder in this world that we had two world wars and that we all know the cost of what a world war can do. Of WW2 many things have come from it, many wars or cold war battles, fight of democracy vs communism, development of UN, NATO, Use of nuclear devices or weapons. As to your comment, the whole world is trying to prevent WW3 since WW2 happened, plus they think twice before having another world war.

Because history does repeat itself, humanity never learns humility, or mercy or understanding. But if you're not interested, watch something else, just don't be surprised at events of the future.

i totally agree with you. if not for hitler, the history channel would have absolutely nothing else to offer! and also, im getting real sick and tired of WWII video games (medal of honor, call of duty, brother in arms, etc.). enough is enough! time to cover different wars and people!
