My husband rips up credit card applications that we get in the mail. He thinks that if it doesn't contain our social security number that we don't need to worry about it.

What an identity thief will do is take different parts of your information from different pieces of mail. If they are missing anything they will make calls to people who do business with you and get the rest.

I would shred anything that contains your social security number or your account number or that identifies banks and stock brokers that you deal with.

He is correct......if it doesn't contain your social security numbers, then it is safe to just tear up and throw away.
