essential on a caramel/candy apple or do you prefer sprinkles?

If I'm going to have a candy apple, it will be hard red candy (not soft, gooey brown caramel) with a flat end (from where it stood to cool) and contain nothing but the apple and the stick. I learned to make them myself from a recipe that was at the back of my bear book in Cub Scouts in 1957 or 1958. (In those days, the red food coloring was probably the notorious red dye #2.)
It's been a long time since I had one, and now that I'm in WeightWatchers, it looks like it'll be even longer!
Forget the sprinkles on ice cream too. I'll take (or leave, considering the calories) a walkaway sundae dipped in peanuts or a hot fudge pecan sundae.

i feel like sprinkles complement ice cream better and nuts complement apples better
