Your question has nothing to do with "patriotism," or much else that I can tell. Patriotism is understanding the basic foundations of the nation. Patriotism is understanding and supporting the rights and liberties of the individual enumerated in the Constitution. Patriotism is individual sacrifice for the common good. Patriotism is the application of rights including free speech, free press, dissent and freedom of expression.

Patriotism is NOT waving the flag, wearing a lapel pin, putting a yellow ribbon (magnetized for easy removal) on your car, spewing slogans or sending American heroes to their death for no legitimate purpose other than to advance a political agenda.

WWII was a REAL war. There was a REAL threat from REAL enemies. There was a REAL declaration of war. Those who "supported the troops" made REAL sacrifices, beyond sitting in their living rooms watching Hannity & Combes.

Patriots do not concoct a phony war against a little band of thugs, then use it as a platform from which to attack the Constitution, our institutions and political opponents at the cost of brave Americans.

Yes, the troops should be supported. Anyone with an IQ above that of a grape agrees. However, to hide behind them and to use their service and sacrifices to attempt to legitimatize those who abuse them for political gain is not patriotism. It is cowardice in its lowest form.

Waving the American Flag, saying the Pledge of Allegiance, singing America the great, and wearing the little flag pins are all ways that people show their support for our great country, and I think it should be done in every school and home in the United States. The Lords Prayer should also be recited everyday in and out of school. Now those of you who oppose this because you don't agree with it, that's your choice, but why can't it be my choice to do the things in school? I'm not making you do it, why are you making me not do it? I thought the Democratic Liberals believed in personal freedom for the individual, or don't they? One other thing, There is nothing in the Lords Prayer that shows favoritism to any one religion over another, or is the problem that its call the Lords Prayer. If you don't want to say it, that's your right, but if I want to say it its a violation of church and state. What happened to my right to say it in school? Doesn't free speech enter into the equation anywhere?

Our elders had different reasons for being soldiers in those days. We weren't trying to push things on people who weren't ready for it. We were actually trying to prevent that from happening to other countries. Interesting how the tables have turned.

As for "if you don't stand up for the soldiers then stand in front of them", I will defend our soldiers anytime. It's the job they have been assigned to do that I don't support. I have a neighbor who is a Marine in Iraq right now. He says he has to do his job or go to jail. They can't choose where they've been assigned, but once they are, they have to do it. America is a great land, but we need to learn to take care of our own problems before we try to solve everyone else's.

I agree, but one point is, we never really had a cause as good as WWII to get into a war. Now, obviously Sep, 11 is a reason to get into a war on Terror, but when we went into Iraq, I believe a lot of people saw George Bush Sr. and Desert Storm all over again and felt this was just his son continuing a war to defend his family's company. Do I believe all that? I don't know...I unfortunately don't trust the media enough to follow it too closely. I agree, our country would never go through rationing as they did in WWII to help out the war effort, just as they refuse to reduce the pumping of water out of lakes even though we're 135 days behind on rain!!!!

It's sad that patriotism has become a thing of the past. We had a surge of it after 9-11 but it really has become a forgotten stance. For example even in your question you have forgotten to capitalize your countries name. It's America. not the americas... It should have been What has happened to American Patriotism?

Sadly patriotism has been set aside in the name of political correctness and is now being killed by the radical left & liberals who would love nothing more than to see the country go socialist.

Around the late 60's early 70's, an enlightened group of idiots arrived on-scene. A lot of people liked what they had to say and, before we knew it, those idiots were telling everyone else how to run their families.
You now have a Nation full of Candy-Asses.

You're right. It's just about dead, with only the older generations keeping it alive. I bet if you took a poll on this site, more people would be able to tell you what Britney Spears had for lunch than those who could tell you our constitutional rights.
