I feel both great and small challenges define a person because the big challenges are often comprised of smaller ones. I know in my life, the little decisions that I have to make day-to-day ultimately affect the big picture of life, which is the ultimate challenge.

I would say the small stuff. I once heard "character" defined as "what you do when you think no one else is looking". Not calling in sick when you have the time and know no one would ever say anything about it. Getting enough exercise, quitting smoking, eating right, driving "friendly", smiling at people you don't want too... etc, etc, etc these are the things that will give the "intestinal fortitude" to overcome the big challenges and i believe are really the things that truly define you...

it's how the small, everyday challenges, shape up what we are going to do in the great challenges that come later on life.
one example could be that, let's say you are a REALLy shy kid who never makes eye contact with anyone, never speaks, never makes a move. an everyday challenge is just getting through the day... so, if one day, he's attacked by a thief (a big challenge, in this situation) he's probably not going to fight back because of how his personality and reaction was "trained" to be.

that's as far as i could go :D

We aren't defined at all. As a student of biology once, I found that no two leaves were exactly the same... and then I saw it everywhere. No two rocks, no two snow flakes as some say, no two people. So how can you define something so unique at the end of the day. I don't think you can. But my question is, why do you want to define what we are? Whatever you are is right there, calling it a person and not a human isn't going to change anything.

I think we are defined by the small, everyday challenges, the ones that we don't think require or merit our focus. Think about the things one fights about with one's spouse. It is much less likely to be over an auto accident than something small like dishes left in the sink or toilet paper put on the wrong way.

When major things come along that require our complete and undivided attention, we can rise to that occaision and sprint for awhile. But in the daily grind, when we are surviving not on adrenaline but our normal energy level, that is when our true colors are revealed, when something doesn't go quite right.

Not all the time. Sometimes it shows how much will power we have, or if we need an incentive to accomlsih something for ourselves; traits such as that.

Sometimes, it does define us, but only if we create and accomplish those challenges, great or small.

In general, great challenges that are accomplished- their results show our potential of who we can be. small challenges (not necessarily everyday ones) show what kind of person we usually are.

EDIT:
example: a small, everyday challenge would be praticing tennis. it shows traits such as determination, motives, things like that. a big challenge would be going to wimbledon (one of the biggest tennis tournaments), and if i was to win it, its results would show what potential i have

That's a hard question to answer because I don't really know what you mean. I think bigger challenges are more likely to change us... but the little challenges, the way we react in everyday life, really says a lot about us and our personality.

The greater the challenge the more we can be hewn or broken..
We have potential to grow in all we find in life..however our attitude and underlying stance tends to determine the outcome..

Sometimes the gentle waves touching the shore..one after the other in succession achieve more than a mighty storm carried wave because we can stand more easily...cope with the teaching....however eventually we will discover the storm wave..and find possibility of dramatic new definition...

The everyday challenges. Because it is what you do when no one is looking that defines you.
