We are adopting a newborn soon and one of our not-so-close friends wants to throw us a baby shower. We only see her a few times out of the year and I really don't get along with her. Why would she be wanting to do this when she never really calls and we are not close??

She is a friend of my husband, whom he rarely sees too, and I don't get along with her.

It is my experience that the relationship that you have with someone is not always the realationship that they have with you. I think this person may care more for you that you do for her so I would allow her to do it but let her know that it is not a need. She may be trying to say hey I admire what you are doing I want to be better friends. Tell her that you appreciate the gesture and let her do it. She may just not be a person that likes constant contact with her friends. The shower is for the baby and help should always be appreciated. Enjoy the gesture and the shower you may find out that things aren't as they seem.

Wow when I first read the title I saw "someone you are not really friends with wants to throw your baby in the shower" lol
Sorry. Anyway...
I would just tell her no thank you, and that you don't want to have one. Thank her for the offer though.
That does seem weird that she wants to throw you a baby shower when you're hardly friends.

Does she want to do this shower at her house or yours?
If she is trying to have it at your house, she may be trying to gain access to poke around. Or is she trying to get you to turn over a bunch of contacts so she can bug them... is she selling something?
What is she trying to prove?
Yeah, I would be suspicious.
Thank her and say that someone is already throwing a shower for you.
