To move out of your parent's house? To move from California to Texas, probably by bus with my boyfriend. About how much money would it take to rent an apartment, like the first month's rent or however much it takes to first move in? And to get the necessary furnishings? About how much does it take?

Lots. You need to at least have a car. Check out classifieds on line for what ever town you are interested in so you can get an idea. Make sure you have jobs lined up before you get there. Do your parents know about this?

I agree that a plane would get you here faster and cheaper (unless you are bringing an incredible amount of things with you, and therefore need the bus). Also, you should avoid apartments---they are bad situations all around! The rent is way too high. In Texas, you'd be as well off to try to rent a house. Don't be a renter for long. Anything you can build on your own would be better than paying other people's livings for them. It's better to put your money into your own property (then, it is not an expense so much as an investment). Land in that part of the state is relatively cheap. Buy a few acres and build a garage and live in it until you can build a modest home. Design it so that you can add onto it later.
If for the short term you rent the apartment, look for those that have free move in, some will even let you have the first month free (it really helps!). As for furnishings, you can economize quite a bit there. You can add pieces gradually, as you can afford them. You might consider buying some items used, and bargain shop in resale shops, bargain papers, and so on. I've known people who've moved in to homes with no furnishings for a short period.
So, to get here by plane, $99 per person. Where I live, 55 miles south of Houston apartments are running $400 to $700 (and the $400 are nice apartments near the high school I taught at up to just a few years ago). Furniture (air matresses for a while???) So, my estimate, economizing as stated: $600. Welcome to Texas! Best of luck to you two.

Killeen is fairly close to Houston, so it will be more expensive than most areas considering it is growing, but still cheaper than Houston and Austin. You will end up saving b/c bus fair isn't that much and you can get a nice apartment there for around 600-800. A lot of places have free move ins so just a deposit fee for first month. I would go to "the Dump" - actual store, not the dump, or Ikea in houston. It would be a good idea to have anywhere from 5k-10k saved up depending on your lifestyles. Texas' cost of living is so much cheaper than Cali you may not know what to do w/ the extra cash but also jobs don't pay as much here and weather is crazy. hope it helps @ least a little bit

first you have to think if you are going to do something like that..how old are you? have you finished school? has he? if you both have and are over 18 years old..( I do not recommend you move out just because your 18. I moved out when i was 17 and learned some very hard lessons. But maybe that is something you will have to do on your own) anyway, you have to think, are you two able to get employement? how will you live if you cannot find a job right away. VERY VERY Important..go to a family planning clinic right away and get birthcontrol! you sound very young and the last thing you need to do is get pregnate as you are trying to get y our life in order. Anyway, after that..once you get to where you are going. Will you be able to get a job..if you do not have any money with you when you leave you are going to have a very very hard time of it. You cannot get a place to live unless you have money..just to get into a place if you have good credit you are looking at a min of 500-900 a month for a studio or one bed apartment. On top of that you pay deposit usually between 400 up to the same amount as first months rent. Then they sometimes make you pay last months rent in advance. So right there you are looking at a min of 1800.00 just to move in. Furniture...also depends on where you get it. If y ou can get to a yard sale or second hand store you are still looking at 3-400 min for bed, basic living room furniture and kitchen stuff. I hope you think long and hard about what you are going to do and plan everything out. Good luck to you.

I'm not sure the rent in the part of Texas your looking at, but here in New England, just to move from 1 apartment to another you need roughly 3,000 which is first months rent and some places charge you last too, and a security deposit in case you ruin the rug or break down a door. Then your looking at furnishings... even at yard-sales you would spend at least 2,000. You need something to sleep on with bedding, a sofa, table, chairs, dishes, bath towels, pots and pans, a vacuum, mop, cleaning supplies, a toaster and microwave (neither essential but I use both of mine daily).

Well lets figure this out...bus tickets and food for your journey...nowadays when you move in somewhere you have to pay for a credit check for each person usually 25.00 per person then they expect first months rent , last months rent and a security deposit...then you have to furnish the apartment, buy groceries, you may have to put deposits down for the electricity and the phone...cable if you really need it...Wow I would say 2-3 thousand...maybe 4 to be on the safe side until you guys find jobs.

It doesn't cost anything to move out of your parents house just tell them and tell them that you will keep in touch,California to Texas would be like few hundred dollars moving bus by bus by bus by bus. Just use an airplane. Rent an apartment... like 200 to 500 dollars. To get the furniture like 5,000 to 10,000 dollars and all together it costs... about maybe 7 to nine thousand dollars?

the road trip on a bus wouldnt cost much, and for settling in id say youll need approximately 3-4 grand, if not more.
and everything is cheaper, yet bigget in texas. its a nice place, and youll fall in love with it, like i did. i personally would go with you but i cant!!!
so yeah i dont know if i helped, get lke 5 -6 grand and appts. are cheap there. i mean i had a 3 bedroom house in a really nice area for just 1800 a month, and my friend had a really good appt. for 900, and...um...yeah you can get a job there easy.

Minus the furniture...I would say the average person would need around $2,000 a month to cover everything (rent, insurance, car payment, cell phone, cable, water, electric, food, gas, credit card etc...) With a roommate you could split some of expenses...

more than you probably have, as this doeesn't sound well planned. BY bus?? If you are under 18 you are making a BIG mistake
You will have a hard time finding a safe apt. with no credit or job, and if underage.
Stay home, have a dedicated plan that you and your boufriend can work toward together.
