The main problem I see is that a non-partisan problem has been turned into a partisan one by politicians pandering to their bases.

The net result is that Democrats throw more money at a bottomless pit and Republicans simply do their best to block new programs.

The entire system needs re-vamping. We need to stop encouraging out of wedlock births (out of wedlock births are the only ones who can get aid). When those mothers go to work, they lose their benefits. Typically, they are not educated enough to find work to even pay for day-care, much less the Medicaid, food stamps and AFDC check they get for staying home.

In my opinion, Republicans would do better to consider implementing a safety net to those mothers who will work and phasing off the others.

We do lift people out of poverty. I don't know how many millions. It gets less every year as we cut spending for the poor.

But, about 3/4's of people who enter poverty exit after a year.

Although we obviously don't tax the poor very much - they consume a small proportion of our budget. From memory, Social Security, Medicare and Defense are about 3/4ers of the budget. 300 billion goes to pay for the debt. Then there is 80 billion for Justice, there's education and 10 for the space program. There is job training - which no longer requires you to be poor to get aid - and so on.

Look, you have (top 1/2 %) 90% of ALL the wealth in the US. 1/2 of American TAXPAYERS make $25,000 or less and they DON'T GET WRITE-OFFS! When yoiu have a clue what you are talking about please come back. The rich have been stealing from the poor far too long and almost 1/2 of the homeless have full-time jobs! You perpetrate myths! When is business going to start compentsating those they screw out of their money, and sometimes their lives!

Why don't you get Exxon to pay more than 5% taxes on their profits when the poor give 25% of their income, and that doesn't incluse FICA or all those unseen taxes on everything!

yeah its a problem.
But why does anyone have to pay so much in taxes. Where does it stop.
Will 100% of my paycheck be enough.
They take income tax.
Then I pay a sales tax.
Buy gas, pay an extra gas tax
dont smoke so i dont pay cigarette tax.
water tax.
Live in maine. Got a blueberry tax and milk tax.
Property tax.
If that aint enough we got used tire disposal tax. oil change tax for disposal of oil that the oil change place uses for heating the building.
I dont know what it all adds up to. I dont make that much. I probably am considered to be in poverty. Dont tell me I dont pay taxes. Cause I pay a hell of alot of em. Most of my dollar is gone before I get to spend it. , and it is not right.

How would you go about doing that Special K.

Seriously. If there is a way to do it, my opinion is that there is absolutely no price too high to make it happen. It would be worth every penny and I would pay it. I would fast one day a week to make it happen. I would sell my cars and burn candles if you show me the solution.
How?
How do we lift all the poor out of poverty? Tell me.

simply education is the answer...

go to a poor area... 99 percent of the time they have very poor schools...

areas with good schools always see the poverty rate decreasing...

if you look at the mistakes they are making and if you talk to them... the majority simply don't know any better...

Unfortunately, there is no easy way out of their present predicament. Everywhere in the world poverty abounds. But I believed on the wisdom of the one who said: 'He who has less in life shall have more in law.'
