I think it's the size. It really doesn't matter, when identifying a mineral.

Have your son think critically about this. Have him read the chapter(s) carefully.

Size does not affect what the mineral is. But he needs to figure that out on his own.

it's the size b/c it can be the size of the hope diamond and still be the same one that is the size of a pencil lead.
Hope i helped. And don't listen to the others i think it's really important that parents assist their children in homework. He will thank you for it trust me, i thank my mom and dad every chance i get.
