I think your current situation at work requires you to take the time to party with your new co-workers. People at home will understand, and will still always be there for you. I think it would go a long way for you to become better aquianted with your work friends to make your job more meaningful. Happy Birthday and good luck!

That is kind of a tough one. It's important to keep good relations with co-workers, but long time friends are there to stay. You will see these others everyday at work. Chances are if there is already a party scheduled there will be more in the future:) Or you could have your own party. One solution, if feasible, would be to go pay a visit back home on Friday after work, and organize your own dinner, or gathering of your choice (its your bday!). Then head on back on Saturday a few hours before the Halloween Bash. Good Luck, and safe travels!

you can lose your job in a flash
Who is there to pick up the pieces? co workers?
or friends?
you can build relationships with co- workers on something else like eatting lunch with them
planning other dates and outings start the outings yourself...
this one party isn't going to make or break your co-workers they will see you start of the week... regardless. friend or foe they will see you... there for you see your co-workers more then your friends if you work a 40 hr work week... now if you have a family too or even a partner tally up how much time you spend at work vs your friends...
happy birthday!!!!

It seriously depends,
my co-workers ARE my friends a lot of the time I would say
but,
look into yourself and think about the party planned JUST for you =]
go with your friends
friends are forever
co-workers are for..well, some idiot gets promoted.

I would likely choose my friends, simply because they are my friends. If I wanted to get chummy with my co-workers I would just go out to lunch with them or something. Whatever you choose, have fun!!
