No it's just disrespectful to have such a price cut. He's tired of the bull. He'll miss his team but nothing else.

It wasn't the money they offered him, it was the fact it was a 1 year contract. To accept that deal it would have put him in a no win situation, because if he didn't win the Wold Series next year the Yankees would have said look fans we gave him what you wanted, we gave him another year and he still couldn't win the Wold Series, not in those word obviously but the same thing. If they offered him 2 years, he would have accepted it no matter how much they offered him, even if the money was allot less money, and the Yankees knew that that's why they only offered him 1 year.
It had nothing to do with the money it was strickly the fact it was 1 year contract.

I don't think it has anything to do with the money. Steinbrenner treated him like crap after 14 postseasons and 4 World Series Championships. Joe had every right to turn them down and I think he would have no matter what the Yankees offered him. Joe Torre went out with class, and he will be missed. My Yankees won't be the same without him.

see what happens when you pay someone more then they are worth all these years? he got 7.5 a year and never delivered the last 7 years, now when he was asked to start at 5 mil ( still the highest salary of all managers!) he says no. theres one word to describe that "greed" . like the rest of these yankees, they are all about the money, a bunch of millionaires with no heart in their game, ... its a shame. I would get rid of all the old millionaires including AROD, whata dud, he can only hit solo home runs when the games are out of reach... I would keep all the youngsters and build from there

NO WAY!!! He has enough. It's about pride...12 straight playoff appearances, 10 AL Championships, 4 World Series titles that will probably get him into the Hall of Fame. The Yankee brass has to consider whether to bring him back and at a pay cut no less?! An aging team with the possibility of Mariano, Posada and A-Rod opted out. A pitching staff with hamstrung Clemens, over-rated Mussina and aging Pettitte leading the way? Think about what you would do.

actually 3 mil a yr, 1 mil forgettting to playoffs, another mil for wininng first round, 1 mil for winnnngs ALCS, . Why should on eof the greats take a paycuit to stay. It is disrespectful. Players should get incentives to stay, not a man like him with his resume

Torre has plenty of money and I believe you are looking at it the wrong way. Just look at the way Torre was treated, I don't believe the Yankees wanted to retain him and knew he would refuse the deal. When Torre immediately said no Yankee management just said goodbye without even trying to reach a deal. Torre is a class act and he just saved his dignity and respect.

He's about pride. He's been doing this for YEARS, and he knows they don't want him anymore, thus the contract for 1 year which is basically a slap in the face.
