1.) You are buying flowers to hand out to your friends. Roses cost $30 for a dozen but cost more if bought individually. With the money you have, you can buy 7 dozen and 4 single single roses, or 64 single roses. How much is one rose? How much money do you have?

2.) The populations of two towns are changing at steady rates. One town has a population of 25,500. Its population is increasing by 2000 people each year. The other town has 47,900. It population is decreasing by 800 people each year. If they rates stay the same in each town, in how many years will the populations be the same?

*Thank you so much in advance. Please show all work... it would be appreciated. :]

1)

30 * 7 + 4x = 64x
210 = 60 x
$3.50 = x (single flower)

You have 64 * $3.50 = $224

2)

25,500 + 2000x = 47,900 - 800x
2000x + 800x = 47,900 - 25,500
2800x = 22,400
x = 8 years

For the first question:

You have to come up with equations which represent the words. First, you know that a dozen roses is $30, and there are 12 items in a dozen, so:

30 = 12d

You know that with the money you have (x), you can buy two combinations of roses:

1. 7 dozen and four single roses
2. 64 single roses

Now, write equations:

1. X = 7d + 4S
2. X = 64S

The second equation defines "X" in terms of "S" and now you can use that information to combine the equations and solve.

64S = 7d + 4S and we already know that d = 30

64S = 7(30) = 4S

Subtract 4s from both sides:

60s = 210

Divide both sides by 60 and:

s= 3.5

Therefore, a single rose costs $3.50

Knowing this information, you can figure out X (the amount of money you have, and the actual question) by pluging this value into the second equation:

X = 64S
X = 64(3.5)

X = 224

You have $224.

30x7=210
30/2.50=12
$2.50x4=$10
$210+$10=$220
I guessed and checked to get 2.50
You have $220 and one rose costs $2.50

dont have question 2 but just do a guess and check
