It's obvious with the latest rankings that this system needs to go. So what should we replace it with? Personally I'd like it to be a playoff system that leads to bowl games. So the greedy people in the NCAA can still get their bowl sponsorship money.

A playoff system where the playoff games are bowls. That way they still get money. If they want they could still have bowl games that weren't apart of the playoff system too. So that way they really don't lose any money. At least 8 teams should be in the playoffs though 16 would be more exciting. I'm not sure how practical that is though. 8 sounds more reasonable.

I think they should play the 4 BCS bowl games (Sugar, Rose, Orange, and Fiesta), and then take the winners of those four games and make a 2 game playoff out of them. They will place the highest rated team against the lowest rated team, and the #2 and #3 teams against each other. Winner goes to the BCS Championship game.

Since they won't go to a playoff system, the second best option would be to use a points system to rate the teams. The ratings could go something like this.

+1 point for a win
+1 for a win against a BCS school
+1 point for a win away from home
+1 for a decisive win (30 points or more)
-1 for a loss vs. a Division 2 school

This way a team could score up to 4 points per week, and the 2 teams with the highest point totals would play for the national championship.

I don't like the current BCS system either, i would like to see a playoff system like the 1AA division, so we can have a true national championship team. But as usual the NCAA is too greedy with monies and their bowls alliance with each conference, they don't want to mess with the bowl alliance, that they have with each conference. If they can't have a playoff system, i like to see the NCAA go back to the old system before the BCS system. That mean go back to the bowl alliance like the Big 10/Pac 10 Rose Bowl match up and other traditional bowls alliance match up, it's better than what we have right now since it don't work.

The current rankings prove nothing. The season isn't over today. I would like to see a and one. A playoff, especially a 16 team one would kill the regular season, and college football would become like every other sport, where I only watch come playoff time.

They should do it the same way the Championship Subdivision (1AA) does it - playoffs. Since they renamed division 1A the Bowl Subdivision, there is no hope for a true champion, unfortunately. I'll keep watching the smaller schools.

It is not rocket science. A 16 team playoff similar to the former I-AA, II, III and the NAIA.

I agree. Or, maybe play the bowls and then choose the top 4 and have them finish it out!

I still don't understand how it works. I'd rather it be playoffs, simple.
