42.7 miles per hour (235 miles divided by 5.5 hours).
The time he called his wife is irrelevant and since there are no time zone changes between Alvin and Corpus Christi, we know the trip took 5.5 hours.

He did not go in the train at all. He just bought the ticket, then he also called his wife to build himself an alibi.
He cannot be home before 7:15 pm if he comes back in the same sort of train, and if I were his wife I would check.
What was he doing in Corpus Christi for a mere two hours anyway?
