i have to say, its not pest control exactly because they even introduce foxes just to hunt them. If you need to get rid of rats (for example) you dont need to get on a horse and look like a massive tit with a red coat and chase the things all over the countryside right?

They have introduced them to kill them in certain areas! How is that anything to do with pest control?

Yes it should.
I have had fox hunting enthusiasts tell me, with a straight face, that the foxes enjoy it!
My response to them was always :
You know the part the fox likes most? When it is being torn apart by the hounds. That screaming and yelping from the fox as it is being literally ripped apart - what that really means, in "fox language" is :
"Oh yeah! This feels so good! Don't stop hounds! Mmmmmm...yeah! Hey..my left leg is still attached to me...don't forget to tear that off! Somebody rip open my belly!"

No. Too much legislation in the world already. We don't need more external laws. People should do what's right, governed by their own conscience. It's mom and dad's fault for raising their kids wrong so they don't even have a functioning conscience that's the problem. I'm against true abuse, but I don't think fox hunting constitutes it....it's kind of a natural thing, foxes prey on mice and chickens, and men on horses with hunting dogs prey on foxes. That's how it works.

YES! It absolutely should be banned! We have already eliminated most of the natural habitat of the fox. We are driving far too many animals to extinction (one is too many species to lose). Fox hunting is not done out of necessity. It does not provide food or protection. It is done for entertainment, which is sick, cruel, inhumane, and just plain evil. Foxes are not vermin. They are a natural part of the food chain and should be allowed to live as such.

I hear this sort of reasoning many times, and it shows that the protagonists have never really thought the problem out.

How do you get rid of foxes - they are vermin - they do carry diseases, and do damage livestock & poultry.

If you are not allowed to poison them - then what?

Can you think of anybody who will willingly give up their time to go and hunt them down and plain shoot them?

If not who is going to control the species?

Fox hunting may not be the best answer, but at moment it is the ONLY answer.

Think of a practical alternative and people will listen.

Remember foxes are vermin.

Yes,it's cruel.Trapping should be banned as well. There's no need to chase little animals the size of a small housecat down and shoot them or let dogs rip them apart, and there's no need to let them languish in pain,in a trap, just so people can wear fur coats.

Umm...For sport YES!!!! But if they are going after someone's sheep or animals then they should have that right. People should only kill animals if they danger something or its the last resort!
