Many states have programs for small grants to help with the downpayment. These grants will not cover the entire purchase price, but can often mean the difference between qualifying for the first time home buyer loan or not.

In your dreams! If you could get a grant to buy real estate, everyone would be doing it and the government (or whoever else was giving out the money) would go bankrupt pretty quickly.
