the late Bob Casey was such a democrat. he was governor of Pennsylvania. he was a devout Roman Catholic who was part of the small pro-life wing of the democratic party, and felt that this was a position that properly belonged in the democratic party, and always campaigned for that. he felt that this was entirely consistent with having an activist government advocating and providing for the "little guy".

the abortion issue primarily defines conservative and liberal democrats.

In my case, (I believe I am probably a conservative Democrat), I believe in free speech (even for Republican talk radio hosts);
I believe in free expression (even for fundamentalist Christians;
I believe in equality (even for white men).

I support the war. Then again, my family escaped Islam in the 1950s and we've been expecting this war for decades.

I'm not that interested in the Republican agenda, but I'm not a liberal, and certainly not a socialist.

I also don't hate half the country and I fight political bigotry, including when I see it in my own party (I am a man of ethics).

I understand those who disagree with me and could even effectively argue their positions and convince most folks. Understanding well and disagreeing are two different things.

Maybe I'm off on my description and I'm actually something else (sad about my party if true), but I've been called "Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Socialist,..." and just about every other name you can think of, mostly because I don't let political bigotry go unanswered.

Good luck in your search. I could have given you the "search/cut/paste" answer, but I assume most people can do that for themselves.
